Merrick’s professional journey began in the realm of Industrial Design. After completing his formal training, he worked in a design office where he honed his skills in creating functional and aesthetically pleasing products. However, his passion for education led him to pivot his career toward teaching, where he could merge his design expertise with a desire to inspire and educate the next generation. For 17 years, Merrick served as a teacher and also as the Head of the Technology Department at one of Sydney’s most prestigious schools, located in the heart of the city. In this role, he was instrumental in shaping the school’s technology curriculum, ensuring that it was not only up-to-date but also engaging and challenging for students. During this time, Merrick also worked closely with hundreds of schools across Australia, sharing his expertise and helping to elevate the standard of technology education nationwide. His leadership in the department was marked by a commitment to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills among his students.
